A'wda (عودة) is the Arabic word for returning home. This comic strip, which I submitted as my A-level exam piece, narrates the story of a Syrian girl returning to her home and being faced with the horrors of the past she'd fled. I was motivated to create this piece out of anger for the normalisation of the killing of my people, and vilification of refugees. I feel that British people are unsympathetic to the sheer devastation immigrants from war-torn nations like Syria experienced before being forced to leave their homelands behind - and so the visuals of this strip are incredibly dark and blunt.
